Branch Out with Us

Come grab a free tree!

By offering free native trees to residents, we're not just giving away saplings—we're planting seeds of environmental justice, neighborhood pride, and long-term resilience. Each tree has the power to cool a street, clean our air, slow stormwater, support local wildlife, and make a home more livable.

In the face of rising heat, stronger storms, and shrinking tree canopy, these trees become tools of transformation. They shade sidewalks, lower energy costs, and turn gray streetscapes into green sanctuaries. Trees calm noise, improve mental health, and restore tree equity where it’s needed most.

When you plant a tree with us, you’re helping build a Cape Fear region where everyone benefits from a thriving urban forest.

Brandywine Maple

This maple is famous for its double feature of brilliant purple-red fall foliage—both male and female trees turn color!

It’s also seedless, so no helicopter seeds to rake up in your yard.

Live Oak

These evergreen giants are built to withstand hurricanes, making them one of the most resilient trees in our region.

Their acorns also provide food for dozens of wildlife species.

Dura Heat River Birch

With bark that peels in papery layers, river birch is a landscape standout!

It loves moist soils but can also thrive in heat and drought, which is why the “DuraHeat” cultivar is such a strong performer here!

Blackgum

Often called “the most beautiful native tree for fall color,” blackgum leaves shift from yellow to orange to crimson all at once.

Bonus: its spring flowers provide nectar for bees, and the fall fruits are loved by birds.
