Tree Keepers

"Tree Keepers" are residents who agree to care for trees planted in front of their home and nearby. It's a great way to contribute to the health and well-being of your neighborhood.

OVERVIEW

The Alliance's specially-trained Tree Steward volunteers water, mulch, prune, and otherwise maintain the trees we plant. However, they can only cover so many trees, and that's where our Tree Keepers come in!

Tree Keeper Responsibilities:

Routinely check the soil and water if needed.

Monitor how the tree is growing and report back any issues (e.g., broken limbs, signs of disease, etc.)

Alert the Alliance if the tree is in need of staking or pruning.

Pull weeds, grass, and competing vegetation our of the mulched area.

We Need Your Help!

For a tree to grow, thrive, and ultimately deliver the shade, beauty, and health benefits we depend on, it must first survive its critical early years. During this establishment period, consistent care—particularly watering during Wilmington’s hot, humid summers—is essential.

Since its founding, the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees has directly planted more than 1,200 native trees and supported the planting of an additional 1,800. Each of these trees represents a commitment—not just to planting, but to long-term stewardship and care.
